The workflow

We are a consulting company specialized in the field of urban mobility.

We help organizations across private and public sectors, third-party companies and research institutions, developing solutions that contribute to their business and to improving the quality of urban life, focusing on four main aspects:

  • Expansion of sustainability horizons;
  • Promotion of active mobility;
  • Incentive for multimodal integration;
  • Increase in access to opportunities and services.

We work primarily across the Brazilian and Latin American markets, for which we have differentials such as good connections and local insight of the region's culture – which clear the way for the development of new projects.

The name

Urucuia is a term of indigenous origin, which possibly comes from the combination of the Tupi words URU (large bird) and CUIA (place to drink). It is the name of a river that springs in Goiás and flows through the state of Minas Gerais, being one of the main affluents on the left bank of the São Francisco River (known as the river of national integration). The Urucuia River also has a strong presence in the work of the writer João Guimarães Rosa, mainly in his most famous book Grande Sertão: Veredas. Grande Sertão: Veredas.

All these elements are connected with the company's purpose and objectives: dealing with mobility in a broad and integrated manner, representing an original vision from a Brazilian perspective and being a source for the major players in the sector.

How we got here

We bring together a strong experience and network in the mobility sector with a global expertise.

Our leader and main consultant is Sergio Avelleda, a lawyer with an MBA in Executive Management from Insper, whose trajectory combines passages through various sectors directly related to mobility, including multilateral agencies, direct public administration, public transport companies, global third sector organizations and teaching and research institutions.
